If you’ve been reading my other blog for any length of time, you’re probably aware of how much I like Ted Leo. If not, rest assured he’s among my favorites. His band’s most recent album, Shake The Sheets, won the always-coveted djl Album of the Year award for 2004.
Today’s MP3, “Biomusicology”, isn’t from that record, but is every bit as good as anything he’s ever done.
It’s not really all that easy to describe to the uninitiated what Ted and the Pharmacists sound like. It’s sort of like what would have happened if The Jam and Thin Lizzy had a kid and he grew up listening to Fugazi and Elvis Costello.
Oh, and they get massive bonus points for the T.S. Eliot reference in the lyrics, by the way.
I highly endorse today’s selection.
Not only is TL an awesome rock star, a great guy, but this is what I think is his best song.
I’d only add two things to your description:
-Grew up listening to Tom Joyner too
-Reads the 26 volume Encyclopedia Britannica for fun.
